Privacy Policy
How ScaledLearning collects, uses and protects your information.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information ScaledLearning collects when you visit scaledlearning.com, buy from us or get in touch, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We keep it short and specific: we collect only what we need to run the site and fulfil your orders.
1. Who we are
ScaledLearning ("ScaledLearning", "we", "us" or "our") is a membership community and media company that publishes books, ScaledLearning Magazine, toolkits and learning programs. ScaledLearning is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at any time at [enable JavaScript to see the email address].
2. Information we collect
Purchase details. When you buy a book, magazine issue, toolkit or subscription, checkout is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. Stripe collects your name, email address, billing details and payment card information. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe shares with us the details we need to fulfil and support your order, such as your name, email address, what you bought, the amount paid, the country of purchase and the status of any subscription.
Shipping addresses. For print orders (paperbacks, hardcovers and the magazine print add-on), we receive the shipping name and address you enter at checkout so we can deliver your order.
Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. When our contact and newsletter signup forms go live, they will collect the details shown on each form (such as your name, email address, organization and message), and we will use them only as described in this policy.
Technical information. Our site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like most web hosts, GitHub may record basic technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and to operate the service.
No analytics or tracking cookies. We do not currently use analytics tools, advertising pixels or tracking cookies on scaledlearning.com. The AI-Readiness quick check runs entirely in your browser, and your answers are not sent to us. Stripe's checkout pages, which are operated by Stripe, use cookies needed to process payments securely and prevent fraud; those are covered by Stripe's own privacy policy.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- process and deliver your orders, including shipping print items and giving you access to digital products;
- manage subscriptions and memberships, including renewals and cancellations;
- send receipts, order updates and other messages about your purchases;
- answer your questions and provide customer support;
- send the newsletter or other marketing emails you have asked to receive;
- keep the site and our services secure and prevent fraud; and
- meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our contract with you (orders and subscriptions), your consent (marketing emails), our legitimate interests (support, security and improving our products) and compliance with legal obligations (tax and accounting records).
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with service providers that help us run ScaledLearning, and only as needed for them to do that work:
- Stripe, our payment processor, which handles checkout, payments, subscriptions and receipts;
- GitHub Pages, which hosts our website;
- email service providers we use to send order messages, newsletters and replies to your enquiries; and
- printing, fulfilment and shipping partners, which receive the shipping details needed to deliver print orders.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, users or the public, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of all or part of our business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
5. International transfers
ScaledLearning is based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have data protection laws that differ from the laws where you live. When we or our providers transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or other regions with transfer rules, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. Order and transaction records are kept for as long as required for tax, accounting and legal purposes (typically up to seven years). Subscription records are kept while your subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterwards. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. Payments are processed by Stripe, which is certified to the highest level of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), and our site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
- receive your information in a portable format; and
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
EEA and UK residents (GDPR). You have the rights listed above under the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to request deletion or correction, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
To make a request, email us at [enable JavaScript to see the email address]. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
9. Children's privacy
ScaledLearning is intended for adults and working professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Marketing emails
We send marketing emails, such as the Scaled Learning Brief and news about new books and programs, only to people who have asked to receive them. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also opt out at any time by emailing us. Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you messages about your orders and subscriptions.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new services or providers. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and if the changes are significant we will provide a more prominent notice. Please check this page periodically.
